Chicken Counter

Privacy Policy

Last updated 13 August 2026

Chicken Counter does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. There is no server, no account, and no analytics. This policy explains what that means in practice.

What the app collects

Nothing. The app has no account system, asks for no email address or name, and sends no data off your device. There is no backend service to receive it.

What stays on your device

Everything the app produces is written to the app's own private storage on your iPhone:

  • Photos you take or choose during a check.
  • The counts, detected bird outlines, and the verdict for each check.
  • Your settings, including your expected flock size.

This data is readable only by Chicken Counter. Deleting the app removes all of it. You can also delete individual checks, or clear all stored photos, from within the app's Settings screen.

Counting happens on the device

The detection model that finds birds in your photos is bundled inside the app and runs locally on your iPhone. Photos are not uploaded for processing — not to us, and not to any third-party service.

Permissions the app asks for

  • Camera — to take the photos used for a count. Used only while you are capturing a check.
  • Photo library — only if you choose to count from photos you have already taken.

You can decline either permission and the app will simply be unable to use that source. Neither permission is used for anything other than the count you asked for.

When you export or share

The app can bundle your reviewed photos into a file and hand it to the iOS share sheet, so you can send it somewhere yourself. That export happens only when you tap it, and the app has no visibility into where you send the file. Once it leaves the share sheet it is governed by whatever app or service you chose.

Third parties

The app contains no advertising, no analytics SDK, and no crash-reporting service. No third party receives data from it.

This website is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard server request logs (such as IP address and browser type) as part of serving the page. The site sets no cookies, embeds no analytics, and loads its fonts from its own server rather than a third-party CDN.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with an updated date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
